Over the River and STUCK in the Woods

On Saturday night I got to meet my second cousins in Lake Tahoe. On the way home from Aunt Nancy and Uncle Mike's house we took a wrong turn on a closed road called the "Morman Immigrant Trail". At first we didn't realize we were lost because it was so dark, but we soon noticed we were the only car on the road. As we continued, the weather started getting worse and worse as we went higher and higher up the mountain. Pretty soon we were in the middle of a blizzard! After about 65 miles, we could go no further. We ended up getting stuck and spent a couple of hours trying to free the mini-van. It was a losing battle, the snow piled up so fast that as soon as we freed the mini-van we would get stuck again just a couple feet down the road. All we could do was pray. We were trapped on a snow covered road that was closed till the spring. Overnite Nana, Pops, Auntie Shannan, Mom and Dad were all taking turns keeping me warm. It was cold, but I wasn't too worried and was able to fall asleep for a few hours. At 6am there was over 2 feet of snow around the car. According to some signs we had pasted along the way, we knew that a main road was nearby, so daddy put plastic baggies over his socks, put on his tennis shoes, and took Pops' santa hat to find help. I was scared after hearing all of the stories of lost families in the mountains. After an hour another snowstorm came by but daddy still wasn't back yet =(. After three hours, we were all starting to get really worried, and mommy began to cry. Then just over the hill we saw a huge snow plow! We were saved! Daddy had managed to find the road and flag down some help. Mommy started to cry again but this time they were tears of joy.

Dear God, Thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing aid to our loved ones.
I am still full of sorrow for the family that lost their dad last week in an almost exact situation. And when I heard from your daddy this morning of your close call, I cried for relief. You know, Violet, God strengthened your daddy's heart and hands and knees. He made him extra strong and brave. Your daddy did not fear because he knew God will save you all. Mommy, Nana, Papa and Auntie Shannan were praying and trusting in God. And over here Opa and I prayed for your safety every night. And God brought you back to safety. Let us thank Him with all our hearts and pray for those who helped you. Opa and I can't wait to see and hug you. You are all so very brave and your daddy was a hero!! Ilove you very very much. Lola
